Why are the Botanical Explorer mails so slow?
Well, Botanical Explorers is run from South Africa, a country whose postal system is in business rescue. Meaning our postal systems are slower than they used to be.
When this is combined with the mushroom explorers who run help us run this endeavor, we are encouraged to practice a bit of patience and calm. Mushrooms tend to do things in their own time and the routes they take are treacherous and full of perils. Yet, they will persevere and journey on to bring you your little pieces of wonder every month.
If you haven’t received mail in a while, we’d suggest you try one month first, then purchase a 3 or 6 month bulk pack.

Haven’t received your letter yet?
South Africa:
Sporetrail Subscription: This option comes via Pudo (Courier Guy) and should take 3-5 working days after you’ve received your dispatch email. If it hasn’t arrived after the period, please contact us.
Mosspath Subscription: This option comes via the South African Postal Service. It can take anywhere from 2–8 weeks to get to you. It’s best to try 1 letter first, then purchase a 3- or 6-month subscription.
It’s very important that you have a mailbox outside your home if you pick the Mosspath. The mailing mushroom just sends it straight back to us if there isn’t one.
Internationally:
Please note that international letters will take about 8 weeks to arrive. But keep in touch and we’ll adjust the mail day to get it to you on time after the first 2 months. If 10 weeks have passed since receiving your dispatch email, please get in touch with us.
Why is the mail so slow?
At The Botanical Explorers, we like to say—quite proudly and entirely self‑proclaimed—that we are the slowest mushroom‑run mail club in the world. It definitely tends to feel that way, with the South African Postal System currently in business rescue, letters take a little longer to wander their way to you. The workers are doing their best, and we’ve chosen to embrace the weatherings and Mushroom-run misadventures of slow mail.
To help us send your second letter at just the right time, please drop us an email the moment your first letter arrives. With a bit of gentle, behind‑the‑scenes guidance, we’ll adjust our postage dates to keep future deliveries as steady and on‑track as possible.
